Carey Villegas is an award-winning and Oscar-Nominated Visual Effects Supervisor who has worked with directors including Michael Bay, Robert Zemeckis, James Cameron, David Fincher, and Tim Burton. As a Visual Effects Supervisor on Burton’s "Alice in Wonderland", Carey oversaw the production of more than 1700 visual effects shots. For his contributions to the film he was nominated for several awards, including the 2011 Academy Award, British Academy Award (BAFTA), and Visual Effects Society Award (VES) for Best Visual Effects.

Most recently, Carey was a Consulting Visual Effects Supervisor for Disney’s "Pete’s Dragon" and "The Finest Hours" and the Senior Visual Effects Supervisor for "Maleficent". "Maleficent" consisted of over 1500 shots of detailed environments and digital characters, many of which employed state-of-the-art facial capture and animation techniques. For his work on "Maleficent", Carey was also nominated for multiple awards, including a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Visual Effects.

Prior to becoming an independent supervisor in 2010, Carey spent 11 years at Sony Pictures Imageworks, where he was a VFX supervisor on "Cast Away", "Hancock", "Bad Boys II", "The Forgotten", "I Spy", and more. Before joining Sony, Carey was at Digital Domain for 5 years namely working as a compositing supervisor on films such as "Fight Club", "What Dreams May Come", "Dante’s Peak", and "Titanic".

In addition to feature films, Carey has also supervised many commercials and music videos, working with top artists such as Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, and the Rolling Stones.

Throughout his 25-year career, Carey has designed and developed production pipelines and proprietary tools specializing in digital imaging, color-science, stereo 3D, and compositing and also has extensive experience in virtual production – including facial and performance capture.

Carey is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (AMPAS), the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), the Visual Effects Society (VES), the International Animated Film Society, and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers .
